Library Student Advisory Board

Page history last edited by Trent Brager 10 years, 12 months ago

Updates (4/29)

Due to the great acronym it creates, we are officially calling the board the Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB).  The meeting will still be on Friday 5/10 at 3pm, but we will now meet in CdC 5.  Because of interest generated at the last GSAB Meeting, we have also invited the GSAB student representatives from other grad programs to attend and join the board.  Further communication about the SLAB will take place on the newly created scustudentlibraryadvisoryboard wiki.  If interested, please follow this link and request access.

Library SAB Meeting Update (4/19)

On Friday 4/12, Stephanie R.(ALASC), Helena K.(ALASC), Amelia S., and Trent B. met with Deb Grealy, Jim Newsome and Jeremy Quinn about forming a Library Student Advisory Board.  We wanted to be prepared for the meeting by creating a proposed outline of the board and its policies.  The document that was developed is here.  During the meeting we discussed the value of creating communication between all students of SCU and the library and how it is beneficial to both parties.  It was recommended that we do not go forward with a formal board due to the fact that a new library director will be coming in (hopefully) before the next school year begins.  Instead, the plan is to have an informal meeting in the remaining school year to pilot the board, with Jeremy Quinn, who was selected to be the library's liaison to the board, which for now will be called the Library Special Interest Group and consist of only MLIS students.  Jeremy is eager to work with the board but remains grounded and knows that just because the board suggests ideas, they will not necessarily be acted upon with haste.

At this time, the plan is to have our first meeting of the Library Special Interest Group on Friday, 5/10 at 3pm in the library.  Details about where in the library we will meet will be forthcoming.  Please come to the meeting if you are available and please bring ideas and an open mind!
